From the Photographer
This ancient Egypt short film pays tribute to pharaohs and sacred stone, from Alexandria to Abydos. From the wind-swept ruins of Alexandria to the sacred enclosures of Abydos, SB Studios pays homage to the enigmatic beauty of Ancient Egypt. This visual series honors the grandeur of pharaohs and scribes, stone and sun, light and shadow—where every chisel mark echoes across millennia.

Behind the Lens
Egypt offers light like nowhere else—high contrast, golden hours that sculpt every edge.
I originally captured these subjects as a teenage traveler in the 1970s, standing at the edge of history with a Nikon F1 and a deep sense of wonder.
Now, reexamining those same frames decades later, I chose to present them in monochrome—removing the noise of color to honor the purity of form and shadow.
Technical Craft: Making the Short Film
The visuals in this short film began their journey in the mid-1970s, shot on black-and-white 35mm film with my Nikon F1 during a formative trip through Egypt. Careful exposure settings and a deliberate eye for contrast helped preserve intricate details in stone, even under the region’s relentless sunlight.
These negatives were recently digitized and carefully restored before being transformed using the Adobe Creative Suite.
In After Effects, subtle camera motion was added to simulate cinematic depth while maintaining the authenticity of the original frames.
The final sequence was completed in Premiere Pro, where visual flow and tonal continuity were refined.
The result: a seamless blend of analog roots and digital precision—no sound added, only silence that speaks SB Studios Portfolio.
